Difference between VGA and Display Port

Solution

Yes, VGA supports 16.7m colors. The number of colors is not related to the color accuracy though. Again this will mainly depend on the monitor rather than the cable.

Color space depends on the monitor not on the connection interface, though VGA is susceptible to image distortion and DisplayPort (or any other digital interface) is not, so those interfaces are preferred.

My monitor supports 16.7M colors and I was wondering if with the VGA connection am I actually getting all of these colors. The reason I'm asking is I'm using Lightroom and even after calibrating both the monitor and printer and printing using the ICC profile for the paper my prints aren't even close to what I'm seeing on the monitor.
