I just finished building my new rig.

CPU:6700k
RAM:32gb Hyper X ddr 2133
Heatsink: Hyper 212 (x2 noctua fans)
PSU:evga 850w gold
GPU:gigabyte gtx 1070
Storage:(ssd 520gb kingston) x2
(2tb WD cavier black HDD) x2
MB:Gigabyte UD3
Disk Drive: Sony x32 Blu-Ray RW
Case: Enthoo Pro
Fans: Noctua x 5

Now everything is going great no issues but I would like to know if cpu overclocks would be safe on new hardware with only air cooling. My idle temps are :

Cpu:22-24 celcius
Gpu:28-32 Celcius

Under heavy load for a couple of hours it sits around

Cpu:47-52 celcius
Gpu:55-60 celcius

From my understanding these are pretty decent temps but can air cooling really handle a cpu overclock?I dont want to risk running too hot as I baby step my way to my 4.5 ghz goal. My last rig had watercooling. There was a leak on my last build and I lost my cpu, motherboard and Hdds so I was a bit jaded when rebuilding and went with air. If going with liquid is still the better option I'll save up again and ditch the fans . Has anyone got decent overclocks with air on fairly new hardware? I do some video editing and I work with CAD and photoshop. I also multitask basically anytime I'm on hence why I am more focused on a cpu overclock than gpu.

80 still seems pretty high but I guess I will just wing it and scale it back once I reach 80. Thanks for the response. :)

Oh wow did not know that. thanks :)

Is there an air cooled heatsink that performs better? I done some searching but cant seem to find anything so I would not be surprised if there isnt.

I would like to get around 4.4-4.5 ghz. I have been getting bogged down a lot in CAD with about 10 or so other windows open. Cpu around 90% on 3 cores. For some reason one core always hangs around 30-40 like its not being used.

Is that only when particular cad program? try using different apps it could be the program.

and you should be fine ocing with that cooler to that speed but make sure you test it to be sure as I could be wrong ;)
