Hi all,

i am considering to buy an ultrawide monitor, which i would pair with a msi gtx 1080.

However i am not sure wether i should go with a 1080p or a 1440p resolution.

Looking at the different options i was thinking for 1080p:

-LG 34UC89G
-ACER PREDATOR Z301CT

1440p:
-ASUS ROG PG348Q
-??

would a gtx 1080 be enough for the next 2-3 years ahead (at both resolution)?
i looked at some benchmarks and probably 1080p is better in a long-run perspective but i am not sure.

any advice would be appreciated!

thanks

Solution
if you can afford the Asus monitor, go for it.
1080p for 34" is way too little. if you open a browser on such screen, it's terrible. you see all the pixels.
GTX 1080 will handle it just fine for couple of years (i have GTX 1070 with 3440x1440@100Hz monitor). When it will be not enough, since you are already willing to play on 1080p, you can always lower the game resolution in game settings and have same performance as with 1080p monitor, but with much better experience anywhere else.

Pixel density will look bad at 1080p on a ultrawide. I have the Predator X34, which is the same as the ASUS PG348Q, and it is a wonderful monitor. I love the ultrawide. I can have multiple pages open at the same time with no issues. The extra real estate is very nice. When gaming it is like a multi monitor setup that has no bezels.

The 1080 should be able to push 1440p for the next couple of years. I think it would be the perfect card to pair with a 1440p panel for the long term.

Get GTX 1080 ti if you want 3440 x 1440 resolution and future proof . Gtx 1080 is not enough for that.

34 inch ultrawide 1080p is not bad as well , and you will not see the pixels . because this 34 inch is like 2 screens 27 inch side by side ... actually smaller. not like a single 34 inch screen
