What type of cable is best for gaming?

I have a Asus GeForce gtx 1080 for strix oc 8gb GPU with a Alienware 34" Curved 120hz overclocked with 3440x1440 resolution. I have the choice of DVI or HDMI. For gaming which is best?

Use DisplayPort (not DVI or HDMI).

First, the AW3418DW does not have any DVI input ports. Only DP (ver.1.2) and HDMI (ver.1.4).

If you use HDMI (ver.1.4), you cannot take advantage of your monitor's 120Hz refresh rate as HDMI will only run at 50Hz max. on a 3440x1440 resolution. On the other hand, using the DisplayPort will allow you to game at smoother 120Hz refresh rate for better gaming experience (esp. on fast-paced games) on such 3440x1440 resolution.
