Hi,

I have recently built a new system but not replaced the storage hardware yet. I have only old mechanical drives...so looking to replace these. I currently don't fill 500GB, use about 300GB tops of live storage. The rest is all offline stuff, used rarely.

My Mainboard is a ASUS Maximus IX Hero, it has 2x m.2 and 6x SATA III ports. I only will use one PCIe graphics card. I do some gaming but the main aims to the new storage is to improve:
1) file system file scans
2) file transfer speeds
3) system boot up time

Will i be ok to just run SATA SSD(s) or m.2(s) or will this stress the drives and cause premature failures? I should say I use a ethanet network backup system.

I was thinking of 480GB Samsung SM863a 2.5" Enterprise SATA SSD as my only drive mainly because I like the ease to move the drive to another system and know very little about m.2.

I will also upgrade ram from one stick of DDR4 PC3000 16GB at some point so am interested in if this will impact m.2 etc. Sorry if this ram query is off topic.

System spec:
MB = ASUS Maximus IX Hero
CPU = Intel i7 7700k
RAM = Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4 PC3000
Graphics = ASUS ROG STRIX GTX1080 Advanced Gaming

Sorry for all the questions and lack of knowledge on my part.
