I have a desktop (Samsung monitor and HP tower), and for the past few months the monitor has been flickering on and off upon start up. It began as only a 2 minute process and I got used to it (I'm very lazy and didn't find an easy fix before oops). But now it's been taking over 30 minutes to stop flickering (today it took an hour). If I turn the brightness way up, it takes even longer.

Any ideas what it could be? The video card, the cords, the monitor itself? (I don't have another monitor or tv to test)

Note: I've had this computer since 2011

Unfortunately, that is the only way to find out. I presume the machine uses integrated video and not a discrete gfx card?
My guess, is the monitor. But only because I've had more monitors fail than gfx cards.
Can you take the monitor to a friend's house and try it? Or connect a laptop to it to test it?
