Solution
The "best" solution is likely going to be a new monitor. Anything that solely has VGA is going to be pretty dated at this point.

They don't have to break the bank either:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Monitor: LG - 23MP57HQ-P 23.0" 1920x1080 60Hz Monitor ($99.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $99.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

If you want to continue using your existing monitor, you need an "active" adapter to convert the digital signal (DVI-D or HDMI) to analog (VGA)...

You need and Active Converter adapter.

If your DVI port has a '+' at one side of the pins with 4 pin holes around the cross, then it supports using a DVI-to-VGA adapter. This is the simplest and cheapest route to connect your monitor to the video card. If it doesn't have that cross with 4 pins, you'll need the active adapter listed above.

Modern cards (10 series, RX etc) are digital only. HDMI, DP, DVI-D (Dual Link). No analog signals included. "Active" adapters are required.
