I have an Eizo CS240, and the specs says:

Display Colors:
DisplayPort, HDMI: 1.07 billion from a palette of 278 trillion
DVI: 16.77 million from a palette of 278 trillion

Does this mean that I will actually get better picture quality with HDMI/DP? I always thought that it did not make any difference using DVI or HDMI/DP...

Solution

Images over DVI, DP, and HDMI all look identical when set to the same settings. HDMI and DP support a broader range of settings, so if you have 10 bpc color depth (1.07b colors) then use DP or HDMI. 99% of monitors are 8 bpc color (16.7m colors) so DP vs DVI does not matter on those 99% of monitors.

The CS 240 supports 10 bpc, so I guess I should switch from DVI then. I am using the built in UHD 630 gpu of my I7-8700K cpu, and I need to check if that supports 10 bpc. Not so easy to find info on that it seems...
