Black friday is coming up, and I'm looking for an extra monitor, which I just barely have enough space for on my desk. Right now I'm enjoying games on a 1080p 144hz screen, but was thinking about upgrading my rig at some point in 2018.

Wise to buy a 1440p, 144hz G-Sync monitor for future investment? Will my graphics card be able to run BF1, SWBF2 and other games fine on at least medium settings? Or should I consider sticking to my 1080p screen and just use the 1440p for less demanding games? Or wait a little longer entirely for another monitor?

If you are planning to buy a newer GPU in the future a 1440p, 144hz G-sync monitor will be an okay investment. But as for now, since your GPU pretty much matches the performance of a gtx 970 you will have the choice of either 1440p 60-~90hz or 1080p 144hz.
