I have an HP z400 desktop computer. I was working on some stuff when a fan started running really hard so I shut it down. When I turned it back on, the resolution was much lower then it was before. The resolution it used to run on isn't even an option. now the highest is 1280x1024. The graphics card is an ati radeon hd 2400 xt. I reinstalled drivers through windows device manager because the "catalyst control center" for this card isn't supported in windows 10, but that didn't solve the problem.

is it more likely a driver/operating system problem? or a hardware problem?

Snydercr, sorry to hear about the resolution trouble your'e having with your system, I would like to ask how did you shut down the computer and what was the resolution size you had earlier? The problem could vary depending on what exactly may have happened.

I shut down through the start menu and I believe my resolution was 1920x1080.

Thanks for helping

The issue is most likely the drivers and the windows compatibility for the catalyst center version. That card is capable of rendering up to 2048 x 1536 depending on output and adapter. What monitor are you using for this system?

Acer S241HL BMID 24 in widescreen LCD. I'll probably reinstall windows and see if that fixes it. but I'll put it off for as long as I can because it is a pain to download and set up all of my programs. I'll try to remember to let you know how it goes.

Thanks again for your input
