asus pb287q dual monitor wont work

i previously was runnning a 1080p Asus monitor with a gtx 660 ti and recently bought an asus pb287q. this pb287q will not work running hdmi while my old monitor runs dvi, it doesnt revive a signal.
the only way i have been able to see my desktop is to unplug my old monitor and restart my PC and even then once Windows boots it turns right back to orange standby light and displays nothing.
i have tried to fix this for too long any advice would be amazing thanks

Try using DisplayPort.
