I experienced something very interesting today from Windows settings and while playing some of my games, I was able to adjust my monitor's resolution to a very different or unusual resolution that I did not know my monitor was capable of.

I have an Asus 28" 1080p monitor and according to the specs, it should do only 1080p, but for some reason I was able to increase my resolution from 1920x1080 to 2715x1527; Why is this? If this is higher than 1440p, can I do the same with any other 1080p monitor?

If this is possible then I should just get a 32" 1080p 60Hz monitor and adjust its resolution to something like this, this way I can save buying a 1440p monitor. In that case I should get an upgrade on my GPU also

Solution
DSR factor of 2.0x is enabled in the NVIDIA control panel

The image you are seeing is still 1080p, the computer renders at a higher resolution internally and then downscales to 1080p which can make things a bit smoother. It's a form of anti-aliasing, though very taxing on the hardware.

And what would be better, a 1080p monitor adjustable in Windows settings for the higher resolution? Or a 1440p monitor with another higher resolution settings? I am thinking about buying a 32" monitor either 1080p or 1440p but with the ability to go at a little higher resolution
