Hi. I just build a custom pc for myself and having some issues after installing the windows.

After windows booted up for the first time I clicked on Microsoft edge and searched something (Doesn't matter what. Result is the same) and it freezes for a while (about a minute or 2) then opens up. Pretty strange.

Then I could manage to download chrome somehow. It doesn't do anything like that. Then I installed Spotify and discord. I clicked on login with facebook button for Spotify and it didn't do anything. After a minute or 2 the page opened on default web browser. The same thing happened on discord as well. I clicked on a link it took a while to open.

What is causing this?

Specs, i7 8700k.
DDR 4 3000 MHZ ram
gtx 1080 ti
Samsung evo 850.

Solution
I solved the problem by using secure erase tool by Samsung. I reinstalled the windows on a fresh SSD. I don't know why windows partition thing didn't wipe the entire SSD.

I don't think a GPU driver (or lack thereof) would cause these symptoms, but it's worth checking too.

CPU temps would be my guess at this point...... So either a poor cooler, a cooler that's not properly secured, no thermal paste or (it should shut down, not just freeze) no cooler at all.

Yes. Didn't change a thing.

CPU isn't even under load. 1% while I'm typing this. Hyper 212 Evo.

It gets over 4.0 Ghz.

Btw. Gpu isn't new. I upgraded the cpu+mobo+ram.

What do you mean? You said you installed Windows?

IF you just unplugged an HDD or SSD with Windows on it from your old Motherboard and attached it to this - and just booted into Windows, that's your problem right there.

Old drivers, conflicts etc will cause these symptoms, absolutely.

You should clean install your OS.

CPU wouldn't need to be under load if the cooler isn't seated correctly.

I installed a clean windows. Formatted the SSD.

Just an FYI. But not sure if you ever tried uninstalling all drivers and using Microsofts default display then going on the web... yes that would cause these types of issues.

For the issue. It's not very clear in the posts what is going on. If you are using a new windows installation or not. Either way. Try using the DDU tool to uninstall all drivers and only install the most current from the vendor website and reboot.

I installed the windows then set-up the first things region pick etc. Then first thing I did was clicking on microsoft edge and searching nvidia drivers. It searched then I clicked on the first link and I waited for a long time to open. It got frozen etc. Then I could manage to download chrome then I downloaded everything I need from motherboard's website, audio driver etc. I mean it started right after the windows installation. Even before I install anything. It was using default display thing. I'm using dual screen and second display wasn't even on until I install the driver.

Installing drivers didn't change the result. I reinstalled windows as well.

Have you checked device manager to see if it is still listing any missing drivers?

There are also CPU drivers and other drivers that could be missing and causing these problems.

Is Windows fully up-to-date? Windows will also provide major drivers for common devices.

Also what monitors are you using by chance? Did you check the manufactures website to see if they have any display drivers for you? Some monitors are picky about the monitor display drivers used.

Everything is installed and up to date. I checked device manager + windows update.

Monitors are something LG that I'm using for 5 years and Asus pg279q.

Yeah its a thing. Normally comes around when a manufactures do display updates like, changes to gsync etc...

You may need to search online and see if you can find the dvd contents anywhere.

Not sure I'd spent to much time on it. You can always test with a spare monitor or something and see if anything changes. If not just move on. But when you do get time. Look for them. They often provide improvements.
