Reactivating Windows after hardware upgrade

I bought an HP notebook with preinstalled OEM windows 8. I upgraded free to windows 10. After a year my motherboard completely died and is not repairable. I installed another motherboard and now cannot activate windows 10. I found that Amazon UK sells very cheap Windows 10 activation keys. My question is: What type of key do I need to buy (OEM activation key or OEM product key)?

Solution

Windows 10.

OEM keys are literally matched to their respective motherboards

However, that new board will also have a digital activation license, the trick is to reinstall Windows and select "I don't have a key" during install, this will force it to find the digital key for that board on the MS servers.

For a dead and replaced motherboard, you should NOT have to buy anything.
And especially one of those cheap ones.

Contact Microsoft, and they should hook you up.

Thank you all for your advice. When I go back to Europe I shall attempt to call Microsoft and hope for the best. If for any reason Microsoft does not help me, will buying an activation key solve my problem and if yes which key should I buy; win8 or win 10?
