I am getting a lot of conflicting discussions across multiple forums and online reviews for External storage (For storing your PC Games on an external HDD).

Many of the forum discussions state that this isn't good and i'll burn out my HDD because of the constant writing to the disk or that there will be a slow down in processing power.. and this is regardless if my internal is a 7200rpm/SATA vs. an External 7200rpm/USB 3.0.

But what i don't understand is that the PS4 and Xbox One use a standard 2.0 external seagate drive (5400rpm) connected through a USB 3.0 connector and the games play fine! I see no issues with this simple add-on for consoles.. why would the same concept not work for my PC??

Do PC's process data differently from external drives then the PS4/Xbox?

I will say yes. "... PC's process data differently from external drives then the PS4/Xbox?"

The requirements for each (PC, Xbox) are different with gaming box drives being more "dedicated" per se.

Not sure about how much any given game would be writing to the HDD.

Set it up and play as you will. Then if a specific problem is encountered then address that problem.

Otherwise, have fun. Do not worry about it.
