Vertical lines and blurriness of the monitor

Hello,

So recently I upgraded my GPU from a ATI Radeon 6670 to a Sapphire R7 250X (not a huge upgrade but I got the gpu for free so its something). I have a cable thats VGA at both ends, and I had to use a VGA to DVI adapter. Ever since I am using this, my monitor picture is not so clear and I can often see vertical lines that move upwards, and the objects on screen often look blurry (the text, pictures, letters etc.).
I have fiddled around the adapter a bit and noticed that it is kind of loose? When I move it upwards so that it stands correctly, the picture changes a bit, clears out..

I do not have another adapter so I thought of buying a new one, but can this be an adapter issue anyway? Can it somehow be related to the graphic card itself?

If you have an adapter in between the screen and PC, you can't really rule things out until you try things without the adapter.
