ASUS U56E Laptop screen goes dark **after** showing BIOS and Windows splash screens.
The screen clearly is plugged in and functional, but for some reason it stops displaying after splash. I am able to boot into BIOS menu with visuals. It is worth noting that I have replaced this screen after my cat managed to break it. If you're interested in how he pulled that off, mention it in the comments and I'll explain.

Also of note, right before this happened I was setting the laptop up to remain a closed lid, concealed computer with HDMI to monitor with USB keyboard/mouse etc.
Is this an issue that could present if the HDMI-out slot was somehow damaged? Perhaps it still thinks there is an HDMI plugged in, even though there isn't. I wouldn't think it would show the splash screens in that case though, so I'd love to hear your thoughts.
