Cant go 144hz

Hey so I bought a new computer with an asus gtx1080 ryzen 5 1600x 16gb ram and I bought a nixeus nx-vue24b monitor for christmas. I am trying to set the monitor to 144hz but no matter what I do, going through nvidia panel, the dsiplay settings, I can not get anything to show me 144hz. It says 144hz right on the box. Please help!

edit: I am using display port connection

Make sure you select the 1920x1080 option from the PC section of the NVIDIA control panel, not the "Ultra HD, HD, SD" section.
