So i fried my old mobo. im installing a new one in a few days. So i never really got to do a fresh reinstall of windows so all my old files are still on the HDD

So when I reinstall my motherboard, how am i supposed to use windows? I have it tied to my microsoft account, but i heard it wont work if all my old mobo drivers and stuff are on the storage device.

Is windows still on the HDD? If it is, just hook up the drive to the "SATA 0" header (don't install any other drives to begin with) and chances are it will boot from there. If not, go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 and follow all the directions to reinstall. During the install, enter your Win10 product key when asked. If it says that it is assigned to another computer, just follow the instructions to straighten the problem out. Microsoft has learned to be pretty easy about this. It's nothing to work a sweat up over.

Since it's tied to a Microsoft , you should have no troubles with activation even with the new hardware.
