Windows 10 extreme slowdown on laptop

I dont know whats wrong with my girlfriends laptop but it suddenly slowed down to the point that you cant use it anymore. She turned it on got to log in screen which took long to log in after password entry. Then from that point eveything is slow as it can be. I tried restarting it several times because I couldnt enter safe mode on windows 10 as the desktop wouldnt load, and only the taskbar without any icons would load. Finally it loaded one time and i ran it on safe mode it was able to perform better. ran malwarebytes and all it found was some "newtabtb" malware. cleaned it but still the same performance. Also i have tried a system restore but there was only one restore point, which was a point it was already slow in.

If somehow you can manage to Boot in Safe Mode one more time, please try to Defragment the System Drive. If that doesn't work either, running any free Windows optimization utility like Ccleaner or Ashampoo WinOptimizer might do the trick.

The SFC /SCANNOW Command is also worth trying.
