Hello guys

My problem is that after a clean install of windows 10 the disk usage is frozen at 100% at all times.
I have no programs running besides Firefox.

Screenshot of task manager : https://imgur.com/a/FJfZ3
Processor Intel Core i7 5500U CPU 2.4GHz
4GB RAM
ASUS X555LB

Tried :
-Disable Superfetch
-Disable Windows search
-Run diskcheck
-Reset virtual memory
-Fixed StorAHCI.sys driver

I`m desperate right now so any tips are appreciated !

[strike]did you already download the Chipset driver and installed it? restart. and check.

you downloaded the wrong tool :D you got the CrystalDiskMark. I want you to get teh CrytalDiskInfo

as for safemode, you should be able to see the diskusage stats on the task manager. same like in normal mode.

have you tried disabling Windows Defender? it could be the one thats running in your background. you may have also installed other antivirus/malware programs. i can also walk you through on how to disable startup services. press winkey+r. type msconfig. services...
I've seen it a couple of times where installing Windows has caused an old HDD to start to show signs of dying. Can only assume that the high amount of read/writes pushes older on the edge of dying HDD's over the edge. A dying HDD can get stuck at 100% usage.

first make sure you have the correct/latest drivers from your motherboards/laptops website. windows creator updates are causing problems with drivers lately. a new version of your driver have been released and sometimes just reinstalling the same version will fix the issue. for your case, reinstall your chipset driver.

you can try downloading the tool below to check the SMART health disk check. watch out anything thats marked red/yellow
https://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskInfo/index-e.html

if you tried running in safemode and the disk usage is not 100%, then it could be a service that is running on your disk. we can try to work out what start up service is acting up on your OS.

I went ahead and did what u suggested .
Here are screenshots for disk checks:

Is it bad?

Also i ran safe mode and when i opened the task bar the disk status was not available for me to see or to select in order to know whatpercentage it is up to but everything ran flawlesly in safe mode.
I also checked for driver updates , all are up to date , i reinstalled chipset and still nothing changed.

if it is one of the antivirus programs you installed. then reenable it. or try reinstalling them. it may be not functioning normally. if its windows defender. it could be just doing its regular scan.

Here is the CrytalDiskInfo screenshot : https://imgur.com/a/sFGag

I did the msconfig thing and it made things a bit better , my windows doesn`t start on 100% disk usage anymore, but as soon as i open anything , a browser or a game it`s skyrocketting again. I went again into safe mode and still diskusage is not an option for me to see.

I do no run any antivirus because i`m afraid it might cause more problems than solve them.

UPDATE: To my surprise the problem is gone , i started a download of 40 Gb , the disk usage went to 100% for maybe 20 seconds then went on a 12%-80% loop not getting anywhere near 100% again.

You did an astonishing job ,thank you ! ! !

oh it is fixed! rofl. but are your startup services still disabled? are tehy all re-enabled? but it is good to do the Surface Test i mentioned on my previous post. you may never know ifyour HDD will fail on you suddenly without these maintenance checks.

remmeber to sort the services by manucturer and enable them together as a group at every restart. once if you notice the 100% disk usage again, take note of the servce you enabled.
you may need to uninstall or repair or reinstall if that application is important to you.

Meh, it's just Windows 10 being Windows 10. Leave it idle for ~30 minutes and come back to it. You'll probably see disk usage settle down immensely.

4 GB RAM is also not much for 2018. Lots of stuff is hitting the page file, which on a slow spinning hard disk, slows things down even more.

Download Spybot Anti-Beacon and turn off all of the W10 telemetry crap. It will thrash a hard disk to within an inch of its life.
