Problem booting to a multicolored grid.

After windows patch or two ago my laptop boots like this probably 50% of the time and requires hard power hold boots to get to start properly. It happens with my wife's computer too, and we do not share a connection anymore. Any input would be much appreciated, I've never seen this issue before.
