3 days ago, I bought an Asus Vg248Qe Monitor for my Dell Inspiron 15 7567 with GTX 1050 TI. I called Dell 2 weeks ago to make sure that my laptop could support a 144hz monitor even though it only has an HDMI and they said yes, it can even go up to 165hz.

(Please don't respond by saying that an Nvidia GTX1050 Ti cannot play games at 144hz. The only 3 games I play are Rocket League (150FPS), CSGO (250 FPS) and Overwatch (150). These games can all play with more than 144FPS if you tweak the video settings (and they still look pretty good))

Here's my problem, my monitor caps at 60hz and i cannot do anything to make it go to a 144hz. I used Nvidia Control Panel to change its refresh rate but the maximum it can go is 85Hz.

My Question is :
Can i use a program like CRU to overclock my monitor to 120hz or 144hz without damaging it?
It shouldn't be a problem right? because my monitor can already support 144hz?

If not, what do I need to do so my monitor can finally go to 144hz.
I saw a lot of videos telling me that you can plug a 144hz monitor into the Dell Inspiron 15 7567.

Solution

The HDMI port on the VG248QE is limited to 60 Hz. If you want to run 144 Hz over HDMI you need a monitor that supports it, like the XG2401.

Could i buy an Hdmi to Dual Link DVI port to solve the problem? would it show the full 144hz?

Those don't exist, any that claim to be are fake, and are actually only Single-Link DVI adapters which are limited to 60 Hz at 1080p.

The most you will get on that monitor from an HDMI output is 120 Hz, with an HDMI to DisplayPort converter like this:
