computer with modern video card not displaying anything. unplugged monitor while still on...

I think I may need a DVI or HDMI cable to have anything to display to my computer because the cable won't fit on my graphics card because there is no VGA slot. So what I did was plug it to my motherboard... what it displayed was "No video Input, monitor going to sleep".

I was kind of worried also because I disconnected the monitor while the computer was still powered on. This is a gaming computer by the way. Did I just damage my computer?

EDIT: This is my very first modern computer build by the way. I never had a modern computer ever in my life.

What are the specifications? Your motherboard may not have an Onboard GPU, or your CPU may not have an onboard GPU which is why there is no output. Try with a HDMI cable.
