who am i suposed to get the search bar on the bottom left to just be the magnifying glass icon?

i know how to disable Cortana and hide it and what not but I don't know how I can change the search bar. I want to get rid of the box so its just the icon because the box just annoys me. I used to have it exactly like that but I recently reset my pc so with that all my settings were set to the defaults. I don't want to get rid if the search function completely but I just want to make it stand out less. can anyone help me out?
