HP laptop severely dim display brightens after shutting and opening

With no OS installed hp laptop darkens after BIOS but can see light shadow of display. In BIOS the display darkens. Shutting and opening the screen the display comes back on. I did get an external monitor to work but even this stopped working. is this just a loose cable or maybe something else? Maybe a driver?

I'm installing Windows 10 and periodically shut then open the display to get the install progress. Now the display stays off when doing the shut and opening then shuts down.

Removing the battery and discharging the laptop with the start button depressed for 30 seconds worked for about a minute. The hard drive light shows the installation is continuing.

Windows installed the laptop will shut itself off seemingly at random. Strangely enough when charge cable is removed and laptop running the laptop runs fine. Battery getting low the charge cable installed will shut down the laptop. Now the question is why does this occur? Why would a HP charge cable shut down a HP laptop?

it can be loose cable but can also be a damaged cable. the video cable will be threaded thru the left hinge area from the motherboard to the back of the screen so check for damage on the cable close to the left hinge area.
