Running 2400 Mhz ram stick at 2133 Mhz What are the side effects?

I am still trying to understand RAM. From what I have read 2400 Mhz ram stick can operate at 2133 Mhz as per restrictions of cpu (6th gen) or mobo. So if it operates at that speed for long time say one or two years, will it damage/alter the stick? After this, if I upgrade to cpu/mobo that supports 2400 mhz, will the ram stick function optimally?

Running RAM at its non stock speed will NOT damage the RAM, well if you are not trying to make it go incredibly faster then its rated speed. Using your RAM at a lower speed then it is rated is perfectly fine. It just means your aren't using it to its full potential.

You must be thinking something like "burn in". Nope. 2400Mhz RAM will run happily it's entire life at 2133, until you put it in a motherboard that supports 2400, and it will run at 2400 just fine then. The only thing that can potentially hurt RAM is when you start overclocking it, where voltages temps become more of an issue, and stability at speed higher than they are advertised at aren't guaranteed.
