Any effects to the quality when playing 1080p or 720p videos on a 4K laptop display?

Hi everyone. I'm planning on getting a 4K laptop as it has became more affordable nowadays than before, but there's something that I'm concerned of. Most of the contents that I have is 1080p and 720p, such as movies and animes. Do 1080p contents look bad on a 4K display? And if it do look bad, will downscaling the resolution of the display solve the problem? From 3840x2160 to 1920x1080.

Could you share the make and model of the laptop in question? You could try it for yourself and see if the quality is crippled, wouldn't hurt to try out the laptop via demo. In essence the lower res content on a larger res display will bring about pixelation since the content needs to be stretched across a larger screen.
