Can you skip over old Windows 10 updates?

Hi, I have a question on Windows updates. I am currently running Windows 10 Pro x64, version 1709, patch KB4056887 and I want to upgrade to patch KB4078130 (to disable the horrible meltdown/spectre patch), however, I know that there are other updates before that patch but according to the windows update installer there are no new updates to be installed, so I downloaded the KB4078130 manually but have not installed it yet because I am unsure as to whether or not it is possible to do so considering that I will be skipping the updates leading up to that patch. Can anyone help?

Solution

You can install it right away, all Windows updates are cumulative.

I thought the thing that gimped performance was the intel patch that came in an earlier windows update (which I'm currently stuck with), hence I'd like to install KB4078130 to get rid of the intel patch, here's an article about it - http://www.tomshardware.com/news/microsoft-disables-spectre-v2-patch,36416.html

I do need it because the performance of my CPU has worsened since intel installed their patch, anyway, I thought the advice from microsoft was to install the fix (4078130) manually via the update repository

Need it in terms of it not being suitable for your system, so the right brand of cpu. You'll just have to wait until it appears as available to you.

I was more asking if I could skip over old updates that I haven't got and just go straight to a new one in this thread, I felt that this was a different question to the one I asked in the thread you linked

It is always safe to skip any updates because all Windows updates are cumulative.

So if I downloaded the latest update via the repository, am I alright to install it right away or do I have to install all the updates leading up to it first?

Thanks! Sorry I wasn't clear enough to start with, I'll be more careful next time.
