I have a desktop and am trying to use a wireless usb adapter on it to connect to the internet. The issue is when using a usb adapter, it only gets speeds around 2Mbps when it should be around 28. Now when I connect the desktop to the same router with an ethernet cable, I get the speeds I should be getting, 28 or so.

The same thing is happening on 2 different usb adapters, a D-link dwa-182 and a Linksys ac1200. So I am thinking there is nothing wrong with the adapters but a setting somewhere on the desktop or the router.

What make and model wireless router are you using?

Where are you connecting the USB wireless adapters? Directly to the USB port on the desktop? Try using a USB cable to connect the wireless adapter and raise the adapter up and about. Away from the back (or front) of the desktop. Try different USB ports on the desktop.

Double check that you have indeed correctly downloaded, installed, and configured the USB wireless adapter drivers.

Run the Windows 10 network troubleshooters. They may find and fix something.
