144hz not working on BenQ XL2411Z with dp-mini to DVI

Hey guys,

I own the first gen surface book and a BenQ XL2411Z which I want to run at 144hz.
I ordered a dp-mini to DVI-D dual-link cable (active) which should work just fine. But when I try to run any resolution at 60hz, the monitor shows a message "Incorrect cable. Please use the DVI dual-link cable that came with your monitor." and after a while the screen turns black and resets to 60hz. This is the case for any resolution at 120hz. When I try to run it at 144hz it instantly turns black and resets. The only resolution I can consistently run at 120hz is 1024 x 768.
Does anybody have a solution for this?

Which adapter did you buy? It needs to be a Dual-Link active adapter, not just any active adapter.

As I mentioned, it should be a dual-link cable.
