i've been looking for a 144hz monitor and found two that are in my budget.

The first one is the BenQ XL2411 and the other one is the AOC G2460PF. Which one should I get?

I heard mixed reviews of each one having better screen quality but the aoc has dp and freesync. Which one should i purchase?

Both monitors have good looking displays, and are not much different than each other. However, freesync on the AOC monitor will only be in effect if you own a AMD GPU. I personally would drop cash on the BenQ if I owned a Nvidia card, but buy the AOC if I owned a AMD card. I hope this helped.

I see, but not having an display port, does that effect the BenQ making it obsolete for the future?

Eventually yes, displayport and hdmi are the more dominant connection types for freesync and gsync. Audio over both connections as well. Dvi is being phased out on gpus and adapters dont often work if you wanted 144hz with a displayport/hdmi to dvi because they're often only single link.

So I should purchase the AOC Monitor? I have an RX 470 but was wondering if AOC is truly 144hz before i purchase?

Incorrect, Hdmi or more specifically Hdmi 2 can run 120Hz, both display and gpu must support Hdmi 2. Not all Hdmi 2 monitors support 120Hz but some do, it's up to the monitor manufacturer. The AOC G2460PF can and has it listed in specs.
