Sharpnes, clarity and contrast

I am looking at the acer g257u, however some of the articles describing monitors, pixels, etc makes me hesitate.

I presently have an hp 22" monitor 1680x1050, great image. .
Seems like the Acer 25" monitor 2560x1440 would provide at least the same if not sharper image
The extra few inches would be nice

No games, just business type work, photo editing and videos.

IMHO, you should be looking at the Dell Ultrasharp range of monitors if you do professional photo and video editing.

I require a dvi connection, Dell doesn't.
I believe that I have narrowed it down to the Acer, just wondering if it is an improvement in anything but size.
