Can't boot from USB to clean install Win10

So I buy this "reconditioned" old Dell with Win10 installed (previously Win 7), but within a couple of days it falls over and I've got an error 0xc0000221, header checksum error on winload.exe. To cut a long story short, I decide to do my own clean install of W10 Pro. I use my laptop to create a USB for this, insert it in the DELL, power up, give boot priority to the USB, restart and - I get a blank screen with random characters (an inverted question mark and a pair of some rectangular shape I don't recognise). That's it. Hitting ESC or F1 or any other key just emits another three characters.

So, any ideas, anyone?

I used MediaCreationTool.

I'll try your suggestion and report back.
