ALIENWARE AW2518HF not showing 240hz but only 144hz

Solution
Can you download the custom resolution utility, find the 1080p 240 Hz listing, click edit, and show me the settings?

It might be inside the CEA extension block, like this:

EDIT: According to the manual, the 1920 × 1080 @ 240 Hz mode runs at a 594 MHz pixel clock, which is beyond the 540 MHz limit of the GTX 770.

Same problem here with the same hardware. I know GTX 700 series cards don't support 1440p > 120Hz because of their pixel clock, but 1080p @ 240Hz is still within their pixel clock limitations. I made sure to install dell's drivers as well, to no success. I assume this is some weird limitation of the 770...

I have a similar issue. I am using a dp to mini dp, not sure which version and my gtx is the 880m. It only goes up to 144hz, although it shows the option 240hz, but when I try to use the 240hz the screen freeze as this image: https://imgur.com/a/Nzz60X0 . Then the screen come back to the normal as 144 hz. I don't know what is happening, maybe my cable doesn't have a good quality.

GTX 880M is a Kepler graphics chip, it has a hardware limit of 540 Mpx/s. This means 1080p 240 Hz is outside the limit. You may be able to set a custom resolution for 200 Hz, but you won't be able to get much higher than that.
