Will two 1080 SLI at pcie3.0 8x bottleneck a 1440p and 144hz G-SYNC monitor

I have one GTX 1080 on pcie3.0 16x , with 1440p/144hz G-SYNC monitor (i7 6700k)

On highest setting I can't usually reach more then 80-100 fps.

I thinking on getting another 1080.
MB will not support two of them in 16x only in 8x for each GPU.

I saw a review that for 1440p/60hz or 2160/60hz there will be almost no difference between one card on pcie3.0 16x or pcie3.0 8x.

But for SLI and with 1440p/144hz G-SYNC monitor - Will the 8x/8x bottleneck the two SLI GPU or I should expect to get almost the same results as if I had MB that support 16x/16x?

Thanks

Honestly, with all the price spikes going on, it is the worst time to purchase a GTX 1080, let alone any graphics card. Also, SLI has not matured much and many games still do not support this. My advice would be to purchase a better CPU such as the i7 8700k or Ryzen 7 1700.

Between the x8 and x16 issue, the cards will run almost identical, with the x16 performing a tiny bit better.
