I game alot on Dota 2 and like to have many chrome / mozilla tabs.

I bought a budget 4th gen old motherboard (only 2 ram slots) as my previous one failed.

Is 8GB (4GBx2) enough? Find that if I run both, i have 0 free memory usually. If i close either one, I would have like few hundred MB free memory in task memory.

find that chrome take up alot of memory, game as well.
Previous motherboard had 4 ram slots (4GBX4)

Is 8GB enough? Sure, it's enough for most things; however, in my opinion it's better to have it and not need it than vice versa. Besides, new games and programs are requiring more and more system RAM. If it's not a huge expense for you, I'd buy the 16GB and call it good.

Edit:

What board are you using, specifically?

From what i recall with my testing on Unigine benchmark, higher quality texture=more ram, if dota 2 with max quality is using for example 6GB (1.5-2GB windows probably), and just 10 tabs can eat up 1GB of ram, you're already at 7GB.

Soo i agree and disagree, if you really need soo many tabs opened and depends what you like to do and your habits, get 16GB but as @SkyBill40 asked you it might have compability issues with your new board soo you have to watch about that.

Its a mixed bag.
