I'm in a Situation that involves possibly getting a replacement motherboard for my i5-2500k, it was stock but temps were hitting the 80*C Range under load with Stock Intel Cooler on a ASRock Z68 Extreme 7 Gen 3 so I Tried installing my Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus to replace the stock cooler but something screwed up & now my ASUS Direct CUII OC GTX 780 isn't being detected, tried swapping in my old Visiontek Radeon HD 6970 but that's not being detected either so I think the attempt at installing the Hyper 212 might have damaged the Motherboard to prevent the PCI-E Slots from being detected unless that can be a Windows Issue. A Replacement Z68 or Z77 Board would cost Minimum $80 with shipping up to $100+, meanwhile I can get a used Ryzen 3 1200 for $100 & a Open Box Asus A320M-K for $45 to have a R3 1200 & Mobo for the upper end of a cost for a Replacement board for a i5-2500k, if I Switch to the R3 1200 all i'd need to get then is 8GB+ of DDR4 RAM(Currently have 2x4GB DDR3 1600 CL8 for the i5). What i'm wondering is if it's worth switching to Ryzen or get a Replacement Board & Stick with Intel?

Edit: Here's the R3 & Mobo I'm thinking of:

no Z68 or Z77 Boards for sale locally, Only Socket 1155 Boards Local is a Intel Desktop Board DH61DL for $40 or a DQ67SW for $60:

Where are you located? The MSRP for a new 1200 is $100 and you can get a b320 board for a lot cheaper than $145. I would make the change from the 2500k to the 1200, but I would recommend getting a b350 board. There is not a huge difference in price and you cant OC with the a320. You will want to OC the 1200 to really get more out of it. Additionally, the b350 board will be a good foundation for CPU upgrades in the future.

I would go with this:

PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HB7qZ8
Price breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HB7qZ8/by_merchant/

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 3 1200 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor ($94.00 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI - B350 PC MATE ATX AM4 Motherboard ($59.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($94.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $248.98
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

You could also go with the 8100. It will do better than the 1200 and you can get into one of those for about the same price as the 1200. The 8100 will get you about 15% more fps in games than the 1200 or the 2500k.

Brand New the R31200, A320 Mobo+Cheapest 8GB Kit of DDR4=$294+Tax

The Cheapest Brand new Z68 Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 for almost $134 from Amazon, However it's only PCI-E 2.0 so it would bottleneck my GTX 780 a Bit that supports up to PCI-E 3.0: https://www.amazon.ca/Gigabyte-GA-Z68AP-D3-S-1155-Intel-Motherboard/dp/B005M2AQQY/ref=sr_1_8?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1523149354&sr=1-8&keywords=Z68
Cheapest Z68/Z77 Board Brand New that would support PCI-E 3.0 is the Biostar TZ77A for about $161: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B007RUG8CA/?tag=pcp0f-20

Running 16 lanes of PCIe 2.0 is not going to bottleneck a 1080 very much, let alone a 780. But I would not spend $130 or more on a z68/z77 motherboard. I would spend an extra $25 and go with the 8100 over the 1200 though. The 8100 will get you about 15% better fps in games vs the 1200. 15% boost is worth $25 to me.

Just wondering if someone can look at the pics of this ebay listing to spot any damage visually, it's a Lot of Untested Motherboards being sold as is, Starting bid is $52.37 or Buy it Now for $85.09, Free Economy Shipping & it's in Canada so no Import Charge. the Boards are the Following: 2 GA-H110M-A, 1 GA-B85M-DS3H-A, 1 P8Z68-V/GEN3, There's Pics showing Front, Back & Pins of each board
https://www.ebay.ca/itm/FREE-SHIP-US-CAN-LOT-OF-MAINBOARD-SOCKET-1150-1151-1155-B85-H110-Z68-AS-IS/112913637798?hash=item1a4a2d61a6:g:6dIAAOSwnklaxBum

if I were to get them assuming no Visual Damage spotted in the Pics, I cold use my 2500k to Test the Z68. for the other boards I'm sure I could find a Cheap Haswell & Skylake Celeron or Pentium for cheap somewhere for the sake of testing.

I don't think you should waste money on it. I think all of them are dead. That's why it listed for parts or not working. The seller says untested so he hope some buyer thinks they may hit the jackpot on this buy.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking also, just wanted a second opinion as tempting as it is.
just wondering for clarity, but how well does a P68 Overclock compared to a Z68?
Also to confirm, There will be no Performance loss running a GTX 780 in a PCIe 2.0 x16 Slot?

The overclocking on a P67 vs Z68 will really depend on the montherboard more than the chipset. Both chipsets support overclocking. The biggest difference is the P67 does not support integrated graphics.

Here is an article from techpowerup.com comparing PCIe scaling with a GTX 680 and there was a 1% difference between running the 680 in a PCIe 2.0 x16 and a PCIe 3.0 x 16. Your 780 will not require much more bandwidth than the 680. There will not be any noticeable difference.

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Ivy_Bridge_PCI-Express_Scaling/24.html

With that being said, I would still go get an 8100 over spending $150 on a z68/p67motherboard. The 2500k was a great CPU, but it may be time for retirement.

Of the three of those I would go with the GA-Z68P-DS3. It wont overclock as well as the Asus P67, but it is a good bit cheaper too. If you are running the CPU at stock then the choice is easy, go with the DS3.

I would not go with the Z77 board at all.

Picked it up from the Post office today, Will likely go for the Install next week sometime.
I Opened the Package to have a Look, It Came in a Box for a ASRock AB350 Pro4 that makes me think the Seller Upgraded to Ryzen & used the New box for the Old Board, the Asus P67 Board was packaged nicely in the box in the Antistatic Bag, the BIOS Battery was Included on the Board and the IO Shield & a SATA 3 (6Gb/s) Cable was included with a note that said "please reset BIOS/UEFI to ensure stable first boot." along with a Item I didn't Expect to be Included, a EVGA GeForce 8400 GS 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 that Retails on Newegg.ca for $50: https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130585&cm_re=01g-p3-1302-LR-_-14-130-585-_-Product
Likely Included due to Lack of iGPU Support with the Board.
