Hey Guys,

So i just finished building my new rig and i am looking to pair up a nice monitor to go with it. I am running a GTX 1080 and an 8700K.

I am looking to get 75hz-144hz, 1080p, and at least 24 inches under $250ish if possible.

Any advice or recommendations are greatly appreciated

Thanks!

Honestly, you have built a very nice system and you are going to hamstring it by getting a cheap monitor. A 1080p monitor will be a bottleneck to your system.

I stretch your budget some and at lest get a 1440p. 24" is a little small for 1440p due to pixel density, so I would look at a 27".

This monitor would be the low end in my opinion for your rig:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIACVB6EG0898

That monitor is 144hz, 1440p, and 27". But it is a TN panel, which has its disadvantages nor does it have gsync. But getting an IPS panel with gsync that is 144hz and 1440p will be a lot more than $250.

Thanks. Unfortunately i already stretched my budget way further than intended already on the Rig itself. I don't mind getting a lower end monitor for now to play for a while and then upgrade later to something better.

I had purchased the 75hz Asus VG245H but then realized i can only get 75hz with free sync, through HDMI i will be locked at 60hz. I was debating on getting the VG248QE because it is about $250 right now and checks off all of the boxes, but i also could just stick with this one i have on the way and buy an even nicer one than the VG248QE when the time comes.

At $170 though for the VG245H, i probably could have found something cheaper considering it is just a 1080p 60hz monitor.

You can get 75 Hz over HDMI just fine. The VG245H doesn't have DP or DVI anyway.

I wouldn't recommend the VG248QE, it's really not a great value. It's one of the first 144 Hz monitors ever made, like 5 years ago. There are way better options for the same price or less, like the G2460PF or XG2401.

Thanks, yeah it seemed overpriced and it is an old monitor.

So i can get 75hz over HDMI with the VG245H even though i have a nvidia GPU not using free sync?

I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to. I have two different 1080p 144 Hz FreeSync monitors and they both work just fine up to 144 Hz on NVIDIA cards, and I have a G-Sync monitor that works just fine up to 1440p 165 Hz on an AMD card.

I got a hold of the monitor early, and wow, after playing on my projector for months, this 24 inch screen seems tiny. I need at least a 27 for sure.

So i am going to go for something 27 inch, 144hz, and 1080. I honestly don't care for much beyond 1080 or need it for what i play (rocket league)

Something about playing RL on this 24 inch matter at 75hz feels jittery i can't explain it.

Thanks, yeah this one seems to be popular, but it is very old. Like 5 years now. I was looking at some newer models but wasn't sure which one to pick.

Viewsonic XG2701
Benq Zowie XL2720

The VG278Q is actually a much newer model, it's not in the same family as the VG248QE despite the similar name (good job ASUS).

Aww man you are right. I had no idea, i figured it was just a bigger size of the 24 model which is years old. The 27 is actually only from 2017. Awesome, i know what to get now.

Thanks guys

Hey Man, So after playing around with the 24 inch Asus i have, 24 actually seems just fine. I thought it would be too small, but i once i set it up in the correct place and i was sitting a bit closer, it felt totally fine.

Are there any 24 inch monitors you recommend? The Asus VG248QE has PWM which i hear nothing but bad things about and figure there has to be a newer 24 inch monitor that is better for the money. If not i can always go with the VG278Q. Thanks again!

Thanks, i was looking at the XG2402 but wasn't sure how good it was and it seems to be out of stock on Amazon. Same with the newer Asus MG248QR, only that one is in stock.

The XL2411 and XL2411Z are the same thing. (EDIT: The XL2411Z was also released in 2013... It's not even close to being modern)

I'm speaking of either one. It's really not a good value. It has a PWM-free backlight but that's about the only redeeming feature. For being the same price (sometimes more) than the XG2401/XG2402 without a DisplayPort input, that's just not something that should be recommended in this day and age.

Compare the G2460PF, which supports 144 Hz over DVI and DisplayPort, 120 Hz over HDMI, PWM-free backlight, FreeSync, a fully adjustable VESA-mounted stand, and pretty decent color for a 144 Hz TN panel, for less than $200. The BenQ XL2411(Z) is basically the same minus FreeSync, DisplayPort, and high-refresh HDMI support, for $250+. The XG2401 can be had for the same price and is much more fully featured.

I know the VG248QE, GN246HL, and XL2411(Z) are some people's "go-to" recommendations, but they're all incredibly outdated sugggestions. There are way better options on the market than any of those.

Yeah this is exactly what i was figuring. Just couldn't find a solid newer model. I wonder why the XG2401 and XG2402 are sold out everywhere? Popular i guess. Not even ebay really has them.

I am deciding between the XG2401/2 and the G2460PF. But since the XG is out of stock everywhere i may have to go with the AOC.

NVM looks like the XG2402 just came in stock on Amazon. I keep seeing iffy reviews though on the picture quality of the XG2402 and the G2460PF.

XB241H seems to be a bit more expensive, but would it be a better choice? It does have Gsync.
