Flickering Horizontal Lines and Screen Going Black

I'm not sure if this is a monitor or GPU question, so any help pointing me in that direction would also be appreciated.

What I think is the relevant hardware:
GPU: GTX 1080
Monitor: Dell U2917W connected via mini Display Port

I have a dual monitor set up with the second (older) monitor connected via HDMI. The second monitor does not have the same issue.

The issue: Every so often, my U2917W monitor will have horizontal white lines flickering across the screen. They seem to be random in that they'll happen on pretty much any area of the screen. Then the display will go black for 0.5 to 1 second and come back on. This will keep happening until I restart the PC. It doesn't happen every time I use my PC, and I think it maybe happens after I run Firefox, but that's more anecdotal than anything. I've upgraded my GPU drivers to the latest version, and the issue persists.

The question: What the heck's going on?

did you try to connect this dell monitor using hdmi and see if withe flickering lines comes on .

Sorry for the long delay. The issue ended up being the DisplayPort cable. After swapping that out, no issues since. Thanks!
