Screen tearing's always a risk, how much of one depends on your individual tolerance.

I'd also get a much better quality PSU than a Corsair VS considering you've already got nearly $1000 or the equivalent wrapped up in just the CPU and GPU.

Fast sync only works well in games you get double your refresh rate in fps, free sync won't effect it at all though it'll just be disabled. If you just set max fps to 144 it should help a bit with screen tearing with little to no input lag.
