Ok, I just bought a 1tb hdd and 250gig ssd.
I have watched videos on how to copy windows to an ssd.
But what i wonder is how you guys are doing it with a non windows drive. Windows have folders for everything like programs, documents, pictures etc. But the hdd will be empty. Can i just make folders for my pictures/programs or how are you guys doing? Also i want some games on ssd and others on hdd that won't benefit from the speed as much.
And lastly should i just fresh install windows or can i copy with program?

Btw: I'm copying files from my old hdd to a new hdd and ssd!

Just to verify:

You currently have a 1TB HDD, with your OS and everything else on it
You have a new 1TB HDD and a 250GB SSD.
You wish the SSD to be your boot drive.

Is this all correct?

How much space is consumed on your current C drive?

We'll go into details later.

OK

To clone the current OS to the new 250GB SSD, you need the actual used space to be below 200GB.

So...
Connect the new 1TB HDD.
Copy the entirety of your movies and pictures and Documents to folders on that new drive. Just the files, not the whole top level folders.
Games - if these are Steam games, discover the location of the SteamApps folder, and copy that whole thing to the new 1TB HDD.

Once you have all that moved, and deleted off the current C drive...what is the total consumed space?

Okay. This will take some time. I will also have to note programs i can download later.
One question though: Do i manually make folders for the new hdd like: Programs, pictures, games, documents?

We're not worrying about "programs" yet, just the data files.

The folders you create on the new 1TB HDD can literally be called anything.
MyMovies, MyDocs, MyPics, etc.
They do NOT have to be exactly the same as what existed on the original drive.

You're just copying the files. Those things can live under any folder name.

Later, once you get the actual used space to below 200GB, we will go into exactly how to clone it all over to the new SSD.

I tried downloading something on D: drive and it doesn't make a folder for it like when downloading on C:

You create a folder on the D.
Then, just copy/paste some files from the current C to that folder.
