screen turns off when i plug in 2nd monitor along with pink screen sometimes

Hi I have a msi pe60 6qe and every other time i start up the laptop i get bottom 1/3 of the screen has pink wavy lines.

i have the gtx 960m gpu

WIndows 10 is up to date, Geforce experience 3.13.1.30 is up to date

driver 397.64nvidia Physx system software 9.17.0524

I tried uninstalling and doing a clean install of geforce experience and the drivers and that did not help

I took a screenshot while the screen was pink and the screen shot does not show the pink lines

i tried pluggin in a secondary monitor into hdmi, the laptop screen went black, like it was not on and the 2nd monitor did not show anything either, but immediately said it was shutting down.

what could be the problem and how do i fix?

Could it be a bad connection with the monitor or just a bad monitor all together?

Try a different HDMI Cable. I have an HDMI Cable that works with my BluRay Player and my TV but doesn't work with my GPU and Monitor.

it's not the hdmi cable, i plugged the monitor and cable into another laptop and it functions properly
