DisplayPort cable makes my PC give an error?

So I bought a DisplayPort to Mini-DP cable to take advantage of my monitor's 144Hz. My GPU is a Radeon R9 380 and it only has a Mini DP connection. Thing is, after I plugged it in, my mobo had a red light on near the bottom. After I powered it on, it shut off immediately, the second time it booted fine, but the little screen in the mobo wasn't showing any codes, it just showed 00. After that I didn't dare to use it so I powered it off. This does not happen with the current HDMI cable I'm using. I heard something about one of the pins in the DP connection supposedly providing power. So what gives? Do I need to look for another cable or what? By the way, my motherboard is an Aorus x370 K7, and I did not find the error code in the manual.

I don't live in the US so unfortunately I can't order that one. And I can't seem to find any certified cables either. Can I use an adapter? Mini DP to DP? I would use the DP cable that came with my monitor.

That should work fine.
