Hello, my laptop has 1.4 HDMI and GeForce 1050ti graphics card.
I want to buy DELL Alienware AW2518HF monitor, but not sure whether it has HDMI 1.4 or HDMI 2.0, since some say it's 1.4, others - 2.0, so what's the real HDMI port does this monitor have? And will my laptop support 120Hz or 144Hz on this monitor?

Solution
Most likely 144 Hz. If it doesn't show up as an option you should be able to get it with a custom resolution.

Output ports generally support the full bandwidth of HDMI 1.4, so you should be able to get up to 144 Hz over HDMI on any monitor that supports it. The Alienware AW2518HF supports it.
AW2518HF does support 1080p 240hz over hdmi. Listed straight from dell it's 2.0. It may be confused with the AW2518H, notice there is no F, which only has hdmi 1.4 so doesn't.

But as your y520 is only hdmi 1.4, you are limited to 1.4 bandwidth. You could do 144hz.

I'm happy if I can get 120/144hz with this monitor from my laptop anyway. So to be clear, if my lenovo legion y520 has hdmi port 1.4 and the monitor has hdmi port 2.0, i can still connect my laptop to monitor with hdmi 1.4 cable even if the monitor has hdmi port 2.0?
