Best dual monitor for a laptop with a 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Hello, I am planning to buy a new monitor to hook it up with my Dell Inspiron 7559 laptop with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. I already used our flat screen SONY TV and I didn't like the result cause the icons were too big. And I could not fit some stuffs in the workspace.

If I buy a monitor with 21:9 screen, 1440 x 2560 resolution, will my laptop be able to detect those settings? or will it revert to its default one? I would like a monitor where the icons are smaller.

What size and resolution is the tv? Your laptop should be able to show a 1080p & 1440p monitor correctly.
