file explorer extremely slow to load

I did some maintenance and cleanup of my Windows 10/64 this morning.
Now when I open file explorer it seems to take forever to display. The screen pops right up and then the hour glass for a long time.

Any contingencies that should be looking into ?

Can you please try Defragmenting Your C: Drive and see if it helps?

Couldn't defrag with the windows options, clicked and nothing. So I did a defrag with another product. No change.

If I get to manage - disk management - and the right click on a drive and select properties, it takes a long time.
Then selecting defrag doesn't appear to do anything.

I removed almost everything from quick access in the file mgr, loads quicker but often get an hour glass for quite a while.
Once it loads it appears normal
