Stuttering, fluctuating GPU usage on 1060

So, currently I am testing out this 1060 GTX Mini.

I have previously run a 970 GTX without any issues. However, now that this GTX 1060 is installed, I am noticing a constant stutter.


Using FurMark to stress test/benchmark:
GTX 970
Averages 65 fps, sitting at 75*C. Utilizes 100% power.

1060 First run:
The 1060 averages 7 fps, sitting at 65*C. Utilizes 30% power.

1060 Second run, immediately after first:
42 FPS, max 77*C. Utilizes 100%, but can drop to as low as 20 randomly.



DPC latency sits at 1000us idle, and under stress testing very often hits 24000us. Even idling there are spikes.

The BIOS and GPU drivers are up to date. I have double checked the power connections. The nVidia settings have been configured to maximize power usage.

Gigabyte Z370-HD3
i5 8600k
16gb RAM
Samsung 850 EVO
EVGA Supernova 650W G1

Did the performance issue occur immediately after installing the graphics card? Or did it happen randomly later in time?

I switched the card to a PCIE4 slot, away from the PCIE16, and suddenly the 1060 is working perfectly fine.
The 970 works perfectly fine in the PCIE16 slot.

So my only question at this point, is why?

See if there is a newer bios for your motherboard.

was having the exact same problem as op. switching to PCIE4 slot has solved it. thank you so much
