hdmi splitter to vga converter

I have a laptop that has only hdmi output and would like to run it to a TV and a vga monitor. I have a passive hdmi to vga adapter but it is not recognized by the splitter. The vga moniter works fine with a direct hdmi cable to the laptop. The TV is hdmi and has no problem with the splitter. Any ideas on how to make this work?

What splitter and adapter are you using? You know that with a splitter you will just get the same image on all the screens right?

What you should probably get is a USB to VGA video card and connect your monitor to that.
