Connect monitor and TV with HDMI splitter

I have bought an HDMI splitter. Is it possible to connect my PC with a 1050ti graphics card to both my PC monitor and my TV using an HDMI cable? I have plugged the splitter into the PC, and run two HDMI cables from the monitor and TV into the splitter. However, the display is only showing on the monitor and not the TV. I am sure I have had this working before, but I just can't get it to work at the moment.

A "splitter" will show the same image on both screens, is that what you want? What device did you get exactly?
